The COP26 Climate Summit Begins

On 31 October 2021, another climate summit under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP26) begins in Glasgow.
The COP26 Presidency has set itself highly ambitious goals, including:
- an agreement on achieving global climate neutrality by 2050,
- closer cooperation on the protection of ecosystems and on the protection of human habitats,
- securing commitments worth USD 100 billion from developed countries to finance the transition,
- closing the negotiations on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, that is, on the rules of international emissions trading.
COP26 is taking place at a difficult time, one that may discourage participants from seeking agreement – the world has still not dealt with the costly COVID-19 pandemic, and prices on global energy markets remain at record highs, which invites reflection on the possible unintended consequences of the energy transition. In these conditions, the Polish Liquefied Gas Organization, in cooperation with the World LPG Association, has prepared a position for the COP26 Climate Summit.
